QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
  • Must be currently enrolled in/have completed a recognized Food Workers Program
  • Must be currently enrolled in/have completed a chef/cook training program or equivalent industry experience
  • Preference will be given to applicants who have acquired the Red Seal Certification
Experience:
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience working with seniors
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience working in a food services position
Skills:
  • Good observation, written and verbal communication skills
  • Contribute to interdisciplinary planning through observing, communicating, and recording
  • Decision making, problem solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Capable of working independently and within a team
  • Must demonstrate ethical behavior within the workplace
  • Maintain an excellent level of attendance
  • Must be able to speak and read English.
Physical Requirements:

Position Summary:

The Cook is responsible to ensure all food items are prepared and cooked to perfection.

Responsibilities:

• Follows standard preparation and cooking procedures of assigned restaurant as designated by Chef
• Follows all recipes, portion controls and presentation specifications as set by the restaurant and Chef
• Coordinates the delivery of all food items within preset time standards
• Demonstrates product standards and recipe knowledge daily
• Sets up, maintains side work, and/or closes station for scheduled shift (e.g., checks and cleans equipment, preps all appropriate food items, stocks all food items and smallwares, dates food items and stores according to first in first out rotation method, etc.)
• Prepares and plates station food items according to specifications and preset time limits
• Ensures safety and sanitation standards are maintained
• Maintains a clean, neat, well-groomed appearance
• Welcomes and acknowledges guests according to company standards, when applicable
• Communicates any assistance needed during busy periods to the Chef to ensure optimum services
• Maintains confidentiality of propriety information
• Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others and work toward the goal of customer satisfaction; Communicates with others using clear, respectful and professional language
• Ensures adherence to quality expectations and standards
• Responds to all "call backs" and "echos" to ensure ordered food is prepared on time
• Insures hot food stays hot and cold food stays cold
• Records all waste on standard form when it occurs
• Communicates any product run outs, equipment issues and quality or service problems to the MOD and the Chef immediately
• Assists with the cleaning, sanitation and organization of kitchen, walk-in coolers and all storage areas
• Disposes grease per OTG and airport policy
• Cleans, sanitizes, and organizes all kitchen areas, equipment, walk-in coolers and all storage areas according to OTG specifications

Qualifications:

• Understanding of safety requirements for lifting and working with equipment
• High sense of urgency and attention to detail
• Proper knife handling skills
• Strong communication skills

Work Conditions:

• Ability to work long hours and maintain stamina
• Standing for long periods of time
• Bending, lifting, twisting, standing, pushing, as required
• Exposure to heat and kitchen equipment
